    Wonderful 19th Century Coral cuff of a winged putti playing his flute. He sits surrounded in a garland of carved flowers and vines. Some of the fully carved 3D flowers are bolted onto the garland. Tapered coral “lonzenges” form the bracelet and there is a coral bead plunger at the hidden clasp. A beautifully detailed period piece. Excellent condition. Italy 19th Century.

  • Name:  Large Art Nouveau Horn Iris Pendant, Elizabeth Bonte

    Large and impressive Art Nouveau pendant by Elizabeth Bonte, France. An Iris (which was a favored motif in the period) is hand carved of natural horn and assembled in two levels for dimension and depth. Most pendants from the period are much flatter and less ornate.
    The horn is then hand patinaed in different tones for depth and detail. Pate de verre beads in icy blue are added onto the silk cord and tassel.
    Elizabeth Bonte, studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs and is considered to be one of the top masters of Art Nouveau horn jewelry.
    Pendant: 4″ x 2.5″. Tassel 5″, necklace 30″.

    The Coppola e Toppo company was formed in the late 1940′s by brother and sister designer duo, Bruno Coppola and Lyda Toppo in Milan, Italy. After small commissions for Dior and Balenciaga, Elsa Schiaparelli commissioned a line of faux coral bead jewelry, which launched them to the top of the couture fashion echelon. Pucci and Valentino followed with more commissions. This allowed them to increase the number of their jewelry designs under their own trademark, “Made in Italy by Coppola e Toppo”.

    Charming Victorian brooch from the late 19th Century. A cherub perched in the clouds is transfer printed onto porcelain and is set into a twisted and textured 14K gold surround.     Betty Cooke has been designing jewelry since she graduated from the Maryland Institute in 1946. Back then she and her husband, Bill Steinmetz, renovated a house on Tyson Street in Baltimore, Maryland and built a studio for the selling of her designs. Her first important recognition came when the Walker Art Center included some of her pieces in their Of Good Design show in the mid 40s.
