Chatelaines became the rage for women of every economic background in the 19th Century. They could be easily customized to your needs, whether you were a society hostess, nurse or secretary. Often fully intact and original chatelaines can tell the story of its owner and as well as her station in life. This particular chatelaine comes from a wealthy individual. The accessories are original to the clip (which is attached to a belt or waistband) and are indicative of the daily needs of this client.
